Dallas Transfer Collaborative:

Transforming Student Transfer in Higher Ed

Background

While many students entering community college intend to transfer to a university in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree, the complexities of the transfer process mean that few of them actually do so.  To improve outcomes for transfer students across the region, NVision spearheaded the development of the Dallas Transfer Collaborative, a group of North Texas institutions including Dallas College, East Texas A&M University, Texas Woman’s University and University of North Texas at Dallas.

Approach

Identifying issues associated with transfer credit loss as a barrier to success, NVision initiated work with collaborative partners in 2024 to collectively simplify transfer pathways and help more students transfer and complete bachelor’s degrees.  Working with leadership at partnering institutions, the team also developed a shared governance structure as well as a cross-institutional agreement on academic alignment and coordinated services to ensure credits fully transfer into degree plans, saving students time and money.  Thus far, the collaborative has introduced a Meta Majors program of simplified transfer pathways in high demand fields such as business, education, and health sciences, along with real-time credit-to-degree technology which allows students to quickly and easily see how their credits will transfer to participating universities.
